The filing of a chargesheet is an important stage in a criminal case—but it is not the end of the judicial process. After investigation, the Court examines the material placed before it in accordance with law. For the accused, this stage requires careful examination of: • The allegations • Witness statements • Documentary evidence • Medical/forensic material • Recovery memos • The specific role attributed to the accused • The offences invoked • Procedural compliance The defence strategy should not be based merely on the number of pages in the chargesheet. It should be based on a structured analysis of what is alleged, what is supported by evidence, and what legal ingredients are actually made out. Criminal litigation is ultimately an exercise in analysing facts through the law of evidence and procedure. #CriminalLaw
